Testosterone Causes Irritability

Myth – Testosterone Causes Irritability
In fact, we usually see quite the opposite. Delighted wives speak of tired, grumpy husbands who return to their former sweet and cheerful self again after starting testosterone replacement therapy. Their men have gotten off the couch, are playing with the kids and working around the house again. Not to mention the increased attention he gives her due to his boost in libido. Theses relationships have
a renewed passion and energy, which is vital to any successful marriage.
Sound Too Good To Be True?
A clinical study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism concluded the same results. Men receiving testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) “improved their positive mood parameters, such as energy well/good feelings, and friendliness and decreased negative mood parameters including anger, nervousness,
and irritability”.
What They Are Not Telling You
Many people blame high levels of testosterone for their irritability, but that is not the case. The media and even some doctors are only telling you part of the story when it comes to testosterone replacement treatment. Whether the body produces the testosterone naturally or it is from an external source, some of the testosterone will be converted to estrogen. If you convert at a high rate and your
testosterone levels are high, then your estrogen levels could rise above the safe range. Excess estrogen can cause mood swings, prostate enlargement, erectile dysfunction and many of the negative symptoms associated with testosterone. The good news is that irritability and other negative symptoms related to high levels of estrogen can easily be prevented or treated.
Grumpy Old Man Syndrome
Men will experience a decline in their testosterone levels and an increase in estrogen production as they grow older. This hormone shift is considered normal, but hardly considered healthy unless you want to get in touch with your feminine side as you age. The increase in estrogen is what causes mood swings for older men and that is where the classic phrase “grumpy old man syndrome” comes
from. As with other symptoms related to raised estrogen levels, grumpy old man syndrome can be easily treated with the proper medication.
