Can you pass the A.D.A.M. Test?

The Saint Louis University Androgen Deficiency in Aging Male (ADAM) questionnaire has been widely used as a screening tool for detecting men who may be at risk for androgen deficiency or low testosterone.

• Do you have a decrease in libido (sex drive)?
  
• Do you have a lack of energy?
  
• Do you have a decrease in strength and/or endurance?
  
• Have you lost height?
  
• Have you noticed a decreased enjoyment of life?
  
• Are you sad and/or grumpy?
  
• Are your erections less strong?
  
• Have you noticed a recent deterioration in your ability to play sports?

What happens if I have some of these symptoms, but my blood work shows my testosterone levels are ok?

First of all, what is considered “ok” is debatable in the medical field at this time. There is not a set standard for what low testosterone levels are. If you already have labs, send them in and we will review them for you at no charge. It is also important to keep in mind that our bodies contain all types of different hormones. Even if your testosterone levels are considered normal or even high, you may be deficient in IGF-1 (growth hormone), your thyroid or adrenal glands could be functioning improperly or your estrogen levels may be too high. It is best to consult with one of our medical experts and let us give you a full evaluation to determine what can be done to help you feel great again.

If there are so many benefits to TRT (testosterone replacement therapy), why don’t all men take testosterone?

That is a great question and we get that question a lot from current patients. There are several reasons. Some men accept the side effects of low testosterone as a part of the aging process. They feel muscle loss, weight gain, fatigue and softer erections are normal for men as we age. But more and more men are taking their health and quality of life into their own hands with TRT. Why can’t we still look and feel young, as we get older? Now we can with the proper hormone replacement protocol. On the other hand, a few men won’t qualify for TRT because their testosterone levels are not considered low or they have a medical condition such as DVT (deep vein thrombosis), which may preclude the doctor from medically clearing them for treatment. As mentioned previously though, if you don’t qualify for testosterone therapy, there may be other treatments available to help you feel like a man again.
