Is Testosterone Safe For You?
There are many benefits of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), but what about the side effects? You may have heard the myth that testosterone causes irritability, prostate problems and breast enlargement. Well, you are not being given all the facts. First, it is important to understand that the male body will convert a certain amount of testosterone over to estrogen via a process called aromatization.
When testosterone levels are raised significantly with TRT, then the aromatization process can cause a surge in estrogen levels. The fact is that having too much estrogen in your body is what actually causes these side effects you have heard about. Excessive estrogen can also lead to erection problems and penis shrinkage. Ouch! Well, rest assured our well-trained medical staff has easy solutions to
prevent and treat these side effects.
Infertility & Testicle Shrinkage
Yes, introducing an exogenous (external) form of testosterone can cause a reduction in sperm production and testicle shrinkage. But, once again we have a simple and effective solution to prevent this. Human chorionic gonadotropin, better known as hCG, can be used to stimulate your testes production of endogenous testosterone and increase your sperm count. If the body continues to produce testosterone,
then the testicles will not shrink and you are more likely to be able to have children if you wish.
Liver Damage
You are at the highest risk for liver damage with oral testosterone treatments. We do not offer oral testosterone, nor do we feel is the best form of treatment for our patients.
Additional Side Effects
Acne, hair loss, oily skin and redness at the injection site may also occur. These symptoms do not occur in most patients, but if they do we have ways to address them. If these, or any other symptoms occur, please contact your doctor immediately.
Risk vs. Reward
For men suffering from hypogonadism (low testosterone), there are actually many short-term and long-term health benefits from testosterone replacement therapy. In our opinion, the benefits far outweigh the potential side effects. With the proper expert advice, you can experience the many advantages of therapy while avoiding the risks.
